WLRN’s Thistle Pettersen sat down with fiction author and Bright Antenna Records executive, Tiffanie DeBartolo this week via Skype. They discussed the October 2020 release of Tiffanie’s latest novel, Sorrow.
In the interview, hear Thistle explore the character development of DeBartolo’s main male character and female character in the novel, asking questions from a feminist point-of-view.
DeBartolo discusses her way of writing and character development that emphasizes an organic growth to the process without taking her characters out of the context of the story. Her technique is rooted in the psyches of characters who live in a particular place and time, connected intimately with their surroundings in romantic, musical and artistic ways.
Enjoy the interview and the song Pink Rabbits at the end by The National.
To give the listener a heads up, it is a male voice in this featured song played at the end of the interview. Since this song was related to the novel, we made a rare exception to our policy of airing only women’s voices.
