Below, find Margaret’s cover image and artist’s statement for this month’s edition.

I used a photograph of some artists from Iran, a collective of women called DENA. I created silhouettes of the women, with an assortment of colors. Blended with the silhouettes, I added an image of an ancient carving of a lotus flower – said to represent the Goddess Anahita – from Persepolis, on one side, and a more contemporary mandala mosaic on the other side. The artists are posed in front of an exhibit of their paintings put together by the Sharjah Art Foundation. The texture on the top and bottom was created with a mirror mosaic screened over a map of Iran.

The overall effect suggests that art and culture – ancient and modern – connects us.
