Below is the image Margaret created for Edition 103 along with her artist’s statement.

I decided to illustrate the idea with images of women from the past couple of hundred years who I especially appreciate & admire. Many were/are activists, and all elevated the status of women in one way or another. Some were also committed to alleviating oppression due to race, class, sexual preference, etc.

These are just a few of the women who have led the way, showing women what was possible and encouraging them not to go along with the status quo and step into the spotlight and demand their rights. These women would not accept any second-class status for themselves or women in general. Several are responsible for women now having the right to vote and gaining other rights that had been denied to women. Many of them illuminated how men have managed to steal all the glory for themselves, as women were written out of history, and pre-history.

I arranged the women in front of a tree – to emphasize how we are connected. I created a bit of a ‘whitewash’ over them to illustrate how even with their level of accomplishments, they have been ignored. Some have been demonized for having been pro-‘biological’-women, by those who want to think that biology is irrelevant.
